I'm a little stumped for ways to convey how good this book is.
Dad would find things he could put into a small box to share with his friends and family. My son loves this book and working out what is happening. Horn Book"Wiesner continues to show children that things aren't always what they seem.
The pictures are fanciful and play with the concepts of time and space.

Since I adore children’s illustration, I decided to check out some of the books that made the top 20 most beautiful children’s books list. With elements of out-of-this-world fantasy and imagination, captured in vivid, non-threatening illustrations, this book is perfect for younge. She will be the next in the chain.
everywhere. I'm not sure how much I liked Weisner's style, per se, but I have to give this five stars simply for the concept! The illustrations are vivid and tell a story that will just fill any "kid" with wonder.
Perhaps it was this decor which awakened his creativity and gave it the dreamlike, imaginative quality so often found in his work. I’m telling all my friends who have or know young children to get it for them if they don’t already have a copy. Wiesner, through the use of smart story-boarding, a child's point of view, and a strong dose of whimsy, provides a tale eschewing the need to stay young. My favorite David Wiesner book to date, and truly an amazing book! Albeit that I do indeed consider David Wiesner’s Caldecott Medal winning. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.
They enjoyed it so much we have written reviews to share. every young child & everyone in their lives, Superb book that even the youngest book listener will be able to read on their own, as it’s told almost entirely in pictures: but so much more fun for adults or older kids to read it with them. I finally had the chance to read it in its entirety thanks to the Children's Picture Book Club. I love the storyl. It’s an unpopular opinion, clearly, but that’s art I suppose.

Older children should enjoy it even more, especially if they are asked to create their own stories based on the actions portrayed by the illustrations (I did this with somebody and we both had an awesome time!). School Library Journal, Starred, "In Wiesner's much-honored style, the paintings are cinematic, coolly restrained and deliberate...An invitation not to be resisted." A bright, science-minded boy goes to the beach equipped to collect and examine flotsam--anything floating that has been washed ashore. And it communicates a lovely message about sharing & giving. He develops the film and it tells an adventurous and imaginative story of all the places the camera has been.
I read it to a child with EAL and he really enjoyed it as well. This wordless picture book is a delight. Gorgeous pictures. When he (and the reader) look at the developed photos, a wonderful journey to an incredible underworld begins. My 5 yr old was fascinated by the story line and we learned a new word, Flotsam, that he'll not easily forget. . I think the story having no words encourages a deeper level of engagement, and both the story and the drawings are wonderfully inventive. Of course the kid takes his own selfie and throws the camera back in the ocean. The illustrations prompt readers to use their imaginations to tell the story.
Then my mind was blown! Caldecott-Winner, and for good reason. . “Flotsam” …
I love Wiesner's story-telling art. This book is astonishing. of the most suspenseful, nerve-wracking few seconds in a baseball game.

The story is about a boy who finds a camera on the beach and has the film developed. Lots of imagination here. He gets the film developed and there are pictures of two different kinds of things; one, marvels of underwater fantasy life and 2) pictures (selfies) taken by other kids who have found the camera.
