This film, like the original 300, is based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller and stars Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes, the Persian king, and Sullivan Stapleton as the Athenian general Themistocles. Even though this is a disappointing update, it should come as no surprise given that it always seems to be about the bottom line in big business. Now that the film is in the midst of production, though, it appears to have landed on an official title -- 300: Rise of an Empire. Gerard Butler, star of 300, won’t be back, but Sullivan Stapleton, Rodrigo Santoro, Eva Green, and Jamie Blackley are in the film, which is set for release on August 2, 2013.
