However, the acting is pretty unexceptional, and the dubbing isn't particularly good either.There are some oddly funny moments. Cushing returns though as a different character to the baron he played in "The Vampire Lovers". Now, what really can go wrong you might ask with Hammer, Cushing, and two beautiful playboy twins showing ample cleavage in every scene...just doubly so? The 70's were not a good time for British horror (with the exception of a few like 'The Wicker Man') and this film feels too lightweight. When Count Karnstein sacrifices the girl in the altar, in one shot we see her face while the knife hits her heart, and she is looking to her right screaming. The true Twins of Evil are not the sisters but the puritan witch-burner, Gustav Weil, and the vampire aristocrat, Count Karnstein: The men have similarly cadaverous faces, and at one point are introduced by looming closeups that reinforce the resemblance. A very good film and Price gives a very good performance - but he is thoroughly unlikable in the film.
