Mr. Hector J. Peabody is the main protagonist of Peabody's Improbable History and it’s film adaption.

After Sherman bites a little girl named Penny Peterson for calling him a "dog", Ms. Grunion is determined to have the adoption agency reclaim Sherman from Mr. Peabody permanently.
: As a gift, Peabody gives Sherman a special dog whistle. Years go by, and Peabody decided it was time for Sherman to go to school with regular children. Robert Downey Jr., known for his role as Iron Man, was originally cast for the role of Mr. Peabody. He is a world renowned genius, who happens to be an anthropomorphic beagle and the very strict but fair owner of Sherman. One day, Peabody finds an abandoned infant and legally adopts him under the name of Sherman. Oh! AyMs.
Preceded by Peabody often scolds Sherman when he slips up but in the end treats Sherman fairly and wishes to give him a bright future like his own. As a result, the WABAC crash lands in the Trojan War, where Sherman runs away to join the army of King Agamemnon. One rainy day, as he was walking down the street, he heard crying from a nearby alley, and investigated, discovering an infant abandoned in a cardboard box, with only a blanket, and a paper with the name "Sherman" pinned to it. [sniffing his armpit]
Their cover is blown at the last second, but they escape in the WABAC along with Penny.
This is the greatest collection of geniuses ever assembled! Uh, yeah, and don't even get me started about Oedipus. Mr. Peabody is a talking dog and the smartest being in the world.
Mr. Peabody also cares deeply for Sherman and loves him as if he was his biological son, though he can be a bit over-protective at times, especially compared to his original cartoon counterpart, who was a much more strict and distant authority figure towards Sherman, and considered himself Sherman's owner, not his adoptive father, and hardly smiled.

She was voiced by Allison Janney, who also played Gladys Sharp in DreamWorks' Over the Hedge, Bonnie Plunkett in Mom, and Margaux Needler in The Addams Family. The WABAC eventually crashes and Peabody is apprehended by Animal Control, who plan on euthanizing him for assaulting Grunion.

Penny bullies and humiliates Sherman, insulting calling him a "dog" for being raised by one, and she takes his dog whistle and puts him in a headlock which provokes Sherman into biting her on the arm. During his youth, Mr. Peabody was sent to the Canine Academy for the ARFS (Affection, Retrieval, Frolicking, and Sitting), where he was quickly recognized as a puppy prodigy when he recited Fredrich Nietzche's "Beyond Good and Evil" by memory in Latin, Russian, and his native tongue, Dog. Peabody soon realized how difficult it was to raise a boy in an apartment, seeing that boys need running room, and so, as a birthday gift for Sherman, he invented a time machine, known as the WABAC. I wanted to be in the Greek Chorus.
Peabody took him back to his orphanage, but when he saw that its owner was cruel, he decided to adopt him himself. However in the next shot the two Peabodys have changed position.
This disrupts the time-space continuum when the copies touch each other and both Mr. Peabodys and Shermans merge.
With the WABAC being low on energy, the trio stop in Renaissance Florence to seek the aid of Leonardo da Vinci to recharge it.
