Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Dogs and horses are also able to use this trail. very beautiful and very easy hike. Great way to start breaking in my new boots! From the parking lot, cross CR 306 and walk down the dirt road into an undeveloped camping area directly across the road. Nice and easy hike with beautiful views.

Really enjoyed this one! The trailhead is at Cottonwood Pass,

There are excellent views of Rainbow Lake below and excellent aspen viewing in the fall. Would def do it again. For a longer hike, continue as far as you like south on the Colorado Trail. The trail rolls up and down with no major climbing as it crosses streams, winds through pine and aspen forests past beaver ponds.

The lake was just starting to ice over. Boy were we surprised. It is located along the border of Gunnison and Chaffee counties in Colorado and is in the Sawatch Range. Not well marked off Cottonwood pass, just look for cars. Encountered a couple muddy crossings. Saw a moose!
