There are three primary ways to access the Lake Magog area. To make a reservation at the Marvel Lake Campground go to the backcountry permits section of the Banff National Park website.
You'll start at the Pass Lake parking lot, and you can take a right or a left because it is a loop!
It is stunning, especially in autumn. One part of the loop is obviously made for vehicles, so heading counter-clockwise is advised. This basin of larches seemed like one of the largest (and nicest) concentrations of larches we’ve seen in the Rockies!
Dogs are also able to use this trail.

Instead, it’s better to just take the regular route back to the Lake Louise Ski Resort. Zero views of the lake. You might see occasional wildlife such as mountain goats and mule deer, but signs indicate bear, elk, and caribou are in the area as well. And your photos are amazing! It is a lovely place to visit, especially during Autumn. We hiked out on it – and found the last 7 – 8 kilometres from the Bryant Creek Shelter to the parking lot to be a bit tedious but the rest of the hike was lovely. The hike from Assiniboine Lodge down to Wonder Pass and Marvel Lake is glorious for the first 16 – 17 kilometres.

At the initial fork we went to the right, I feel like this way is easier because less uphill, could be wrong though, either way you’ll definitelyhdown come across some tough uphills, at least if you’re like me and in borderline shape. This would make for a short and fun backpacking trip and allow you to explore Redoubt and Hidden Lake as well and make it two much easier days, as opposed to one long day. Not exactly scenic, but we literally saw nobody the whole time we were there, so totally perfect for COVID times. Overall an ok trail, not many views of the lake. The trail is primarily used for hiking. If you go counterclockwise you’ll get a bit more of a workout with some inclines.

The hike to Redoubt Lake is an underappreciated hike in the Skoki region near Lake Louise. Expect to be passed by trucks or vans heading up to ferry Skoki passengers to the top of the fire road or maintenance staff to work on the ski hill.
Pass Lake Loop is a 3.2 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail located near Anacortes, Washington that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. In fact the last 6 kilometres to the trailhead are on old logging roads, so the hiking is quite tedious through here – though it’s lovely for cross-country skiing. I may be biased but if you want a treat I think it’s a fantastic place to stay. Saddleback. The railroad tunnels on Donner Pass provide, unquestionably, one of the most unique hiking experiences at Lake Tahoe. Helicopter in and from what I was told you have to stay at the Naiset Huts or Assiniboine Lodge to do this, backpack in from the Sunshine Valley Ski Resort or hike in from the Mount Shark Trailhead.

The whole Skoki region is known for grizzly’s, so make sure you have bear spray and hike in a group. The trail sweeps past a huge Larch forest, and eventually takes you above Eiffel Lake. You are just walking through the forest.
