The Blanton Lab investigates the basic molecular signaling mechanisms regulating the process of cardiac remodeling: the myocardial structural and functional abnormalities which ultimately cause the heart failure syndrome. Our lab has identified several novel PKGI substrates which we are now investigating both in in vitro studies and in animal models of heart failure. The laboratory utilizes molecular and electrophysiologic approaches both in vivo and at the single cell level to establish mechanisms of arrhythmogenesis and left ventricular dysfunction in mouse models for diabetes and the metabolic syndrome.
