I finished the very short story rather unsatisfied. I don't feel like the book is a stand alone book. I did find this short story however from the series and fancied giving it a try. Refresh and try again. But as a standalone it does work, pretty much. Nought Forever explores how loyalty shifts as Eva discovers Dan, a young man injured and hiding, in her back garden. With just 53 pages, overall, it just felt incomplete and pointless. But at the same time you get more than enough to get at the basics of who they are and how maybe they’re lives have been. A nice little taster and reminder of Malorie Blackman's Noughts & Crosses world before the release of Crossfire this summer! You get the idea behind the alternative British society pretty quickly and know who the Noughts and the Crosses are, societally speaking. I remember reading Noughts and Crosses when I was in high school and to be honest, not really enjoying it very much. Malorie Blackman has written over sixty books for children and young adults. There was a good build up of suspense with a few surprises until the cliff hanger ending! I love the characterisation of Eva developed in only a few pages. It was a good book because the story of how a noughts boy meets a mother of a crosses girl who died was very interesting. It's dark but I keep seeing white flashes before my eyes like spots of lightning jabbing at me.

Even for a novella this story is short, only 53 pages are actually the story, the rest is previews and adverts. Personally I've never read noughts and crosses (hopefully getting to this soon) so I was very lost and didn't know what noughts and crosses were. Nought Forever follows Dan who is on the run and ends up being attacked, collapsing in the lawn of Eva's house and she drags him in and debates whether to hide him and lie to authorities or betray his arrival. Didn't feel it was as good as I remembered the first one to be, but a clever concept. –Malorie Blackman - Nought forever - c.2019. The story ends on a weak cliffhanger and is not really resolved. This short story has made me want to reread the series in preparation for the fifth book coming out this year. This World Book Day, return to the World of Noughts and Crosses. I have to say I’d recommend reading all the books in the series, I’ll have to see if I can get hold of book four, and then read book five, Crossfire when it is published in the summer. 28th Feb 2019. If the book was a full story than it might have worked but it's only half a book as the rest is made up of tasters. Back in March we held our World Book Day event and I recently swapped my voucher for one of the freebies that they had to offer. In this mini world book day book focusing back on the nought vs cross world, we meet criminal of the nought gang, Dan as he gets injured and relies on cross, Eva an ex nurse to take care of him after all she knows loss after her daughter committed suicide. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. I’ve not read the Noughts and Crosses series in 10 years and this instantly took me right back to that world and had me hooked. But for some reason I never got to number 4, Double Cross. I wasn’t lied to. To see what your friends thought of this book, These world book day books are great for getting my reading challenge done , I remember reading Noughts and Crosses when I was in high school and to be honest, not really enjoying it very much. One of those nights when if my hatred were fuel, I would happily light a match and watch the whole world burn . From 2013-2015, she was the eighth Children’s Laureate and she has been awarded an OBE as well as several literary awards. I’ve read all of the books in this series numerous times, and when I heard Malorie Blackman was releasing a new book in the series I could not wait! Why let her keep talking? . I'm still not convinced that the series is something I would enjoy now, even as an older reader. After that ending, I need Crossfire now! Very fast-paced, I liked the duel POV aspect. As I say, it isn’t really a great book if you haven’t read anything in the series, but it does give you an indication of Blackman’s style and it is enough to keep your interest.
I think if I did then this book would mean a lot more to me because I’m pretty sure it is almost a deleted scene from that book.
